Juror Removed from Diddy Trial for Lack of Honesty

In a significant development during Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial in Manhattan, a black juror was dismissed on Monday due to concerns regarding his honesty during jury selection. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian raised issues about the juror's credibility after he provided conflicting statements about his residence. During questioning, the juror indicated he lived in both the Bronx and New Jersey, which prompted scrutiny from the prosecution.

The juror had previously claimed he lived in the Bronx with his fiancée, but later mentioned cohabiting with his girlfriend in New Jersey. This inconsistency led Judge Subramanian to express doubts about the juror's ability to follow instructions and his overall candor. The judge stated, "There’s nothing that the juror could say at this point that would put the genie back in the bottle," ultimately deciding to replace him with an alternate juror, a 57-year-old white male accountant from Westchester County.

Combs’ defense team criticized the dismissal, suggesting it was an attempt to remove a black juror, which they described as a “thinly veiled effort.” However, Judge Subramanian dismissed these claims, asserting that there was no evidence of biased conduct from the prosecution throughout the trial.

Combs, facing serious allegations including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, has been on trial since May 12, with proceedings expected to last eight weeks. Prosecutors have called over 18 witnesses, including the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, who detailed troubling accounts of coercive sexual encounters. The defense aims to demonstrate that all interactions were consensual; if convicted, Combs could face a lengthy prison sentence.
