Judge orders Shia LaBeouf to rehab following Mardi Gras arrest

A New Orleans judge has mandated actor Shia LaBeouf to return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation following his recent arrest on two counts of battery. The incident in question occurred outside a bar during Mardi Gras, where LaBeouf reportedly assaulted multiple individuals, allegedly using homophobic slurs and causing one victim to suffer a dislocated nose.

During a court appearance, LaBeouf, aged 39, appeared without representation and was dressed casually in a fleece jacket and cowboy boots. Judge Simone Levine expressed concern for community safety, particularly regarding the impact on the LGBTQ+ community. She emphasized that LaBeouf’s actions raised serious concerns about his alcohol addiction and understanding of the severity of the allegations against him.

The court has ordered LaBeouf to undergo weekly drug testing, which he has agreed to, although his attorney stated that a recent test did not indicate the presence of illegal substances. LaBeouf posted a $100,000 bond but has not yet entered a formal plea regarding the charges.

The police report details that LaBeouf allegedly punched entertainer Jeffrey Klein—who is referred to as Jeffrey Damnit—multiple times and made threats based on Klein's appearance. Klein has claimed that LaBeouf targeted him due to his choice to wear makeup.

Judge Levine also denied LaBeouf's request to travel to Rome in March for personal reasons, citing concerns about his ability to manage alcohol consumption. The judge previously released LaBeouf without bond shortly after his arrest, but stated that she lacked the full details from the police report at that time. LaBeouf has refrained from commenting to the media, expressing a desire for privacy.
