Jennifer Aniston's accused stalker deemed mentally incompetent, seeks second opinion

Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, a 48-year-old man from Mississippi, has been charged with stalking actress Jennifer Aniston and crashing his car through the front gate of her home. At a recent court hearing, Carwyle was deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial based on an evaluation by a county-appointed psychiatrist. However, he has requested a second opinion, prompting a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to order a reevaluation and schedule a follow-up hearing for May 29.

During the court appearance, Carwyle was seen in custody, wearing a blue smock designed for suicide prevention. His defense attorney, Deputy Public Defender Robert Krauss, indicated that Carwyle intends to seek an assessment from a different psychiatrist. Both the prosecution and an attorney representing Aniston declined to comment outside the courtroom.

Prosecutors allege that Carwyle harassed Aniston with numerous voicemail, email, and social media messages over a two-year period prior to the incident on May 5. On that date, he drove his Chrysler PT Cruiser through the gate of Aniston's residence in Bel Air, causing significant damage. Although Aniston was at home during the incident, she did not come into direct contact with Carwyle, as a security guard intervened until police arrived. No injuries were reported.

Carwyle faces charges of felony stalking and vandalism, along with an aggravating circumstance related to the threat of great bodily harm. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of three years in prison. Should he be found incompetent again, the court may mandate his transfer to a state mental hospital for treatment and ongoing evaluation.
