Greta Thunberg Deported from Israel After "Selfie Yacht" Incident

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has recently faced deportation from Israel after attempting to breach the blockade of Gaza with a flotilla carrying humanitarian supplies. The Israeli authorities intercepted her vessel, which they referred to derisively as the “selfie yacht,” stating that the mission was more of a publicity stunt than a genuine humanitarian effort. Thunberg, known for her commitment to environmental causes and avoidance of air travel, was subsequently required to board a flight back to Sweden via France.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed her deportation on social media, sharing images of Thunberg aboard the aircraft. Alongside her, three other activists were also deported, while eight others, including a member of the European Parliament, opted to resist signing the necessary deportation paperwork and are awaiting a judicial review.

Thunberg expressed to her legal team that remaining in Israel against the authorities' wishes could negatively impact their cause. She indicated that her continued activism would be more effective outside the country. Prior to her deportation, she released a video claiming that she had been "kidnapped" in international waters, a statement that was met with criticism, particularly in light of recent events involving hostages taken by Hamas.

The Israeli government has publicly dismissed the flotilla's mission, emphasizing that substantial humanitarian aid has been delivered to Gaza through official channels. The situation has drawn varying reactions, including mockery from President Donald Trump, who suggested that Thunberg should seek anger management assistance.
