Green Day to perform at Super Bowl ceremony honoring past MVPs

The National Football League (NFL) has announced that the iconic band Green Day will perform at the opening ceremony of Super Bowl 60, scheduled for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. This marks a significant milestone as the league celebrates six decades of the Super Bowl's history.

Green Day, originating from the East Bay area of San Francisco, consists of members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. The band is expected to deliver a selection of their well-known songs, adding a celebratory atmosphere to the event. Armstrong expressed excitement about performing in their hometown, stating, “We are honored to welcome the MVPs who’ve shaped the game and open the night for fans all over the world.”

NFL officials view this collaboration as a meaningful way to highlight the contributions of both the band and the NFL legends who have defined the sport. Tim Tubito, the league's senior director of event and game presentation, remarked on the significance of the event, emphasizing the goal of creating a collective celebration for fans globally.

The opening ceremony will be broadcast live at 3 p.m. Pacific time on NBC, Telemundo, Peacock, and Universo. Following Green Day’s performance, additional pregame entertainment will feature Charlie Puth singing the national anthem, Brandi Carlile performing “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones delivering “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

As the NFL gears up for this landmark event, the inclusion of Green Day as the opening act reflects both the band's cultural impact and the league's commitment to celebrating its storied history.
