Supporting Acts Exit Ed Sheeran Tour After Macklemore’s Removal
Several artists have withdrawn from Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour following the removal of Macklemore from its supporting lineup. Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Irish traditional band Beoga have announced that they will no longer appear on the remaining dates, citing concerns about artistic expression and support for Palestinians.
Finneas said artists should not be silenced for speaking on behalf of oppressed people and stated his support for Palestine. Graham said his friendship with Sheeran remained unchanged but that he could not continue touring under the current circumstances. Beoga, which has performed a six-song set with Sheeran during the tour, similarly withdrew. The band referred to its decade-long relationship with Sheeran while saying it would not play at venues it believes restrict advocacy for Palestinians.
Rowe, who had opened shows since February, was the first supporting artist to leave voluntarily. His statement accused wealthy interests of suppressing criticism of Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
The dispute began after Macklemore called for a “free Palestine” and performed his protest song “Hind’s Hall” during a September concert. Calls for his removal followed, including a petition from the Israeli-American Council. Messina Touring Group later said venues scheduled to host upcoming U.S. concerts would not permit Macklemore on the bill, leading the promoter to remove him.
Robert Kraft, whose company owns Gillette Stadium, said Macklemore’s recent conduct and what he described as a history of antisemitic rhetoric made the rapper’s participation unacceptable. Macklemore rejected the decision while maintaining his support for Palestinians and expressing continued respect for Sheeran.
Sheeran said the promoter, not he, made the decision. He praised Macklemore’s commitment to his beliefs but said his own approach emphasizes diplomacy, open conversation and creating a safe environment. Sheeran’s representatives had not provided further comment. With Beoga and the other scheduled supporters departing, the tour currently has no opening acts remaining for upcoming concerts.
