Final Destination: Bloodlines leads box office; The Weeknd's film underperforms

The “Final Destination” franchise continues to thrive at the box office with its latest installment, “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” which debuted over the weekend, grossing an estimated $51 million domestically. This strong performance contributed to a total global opening of $102 million, bolstered by positive reviews and effective marketing strategies. The film, which opened in 3,523 theaters, is noted for its nostalgic callbacks to previous installments in the series, including a memorable scene involving logs on trucks.

In contrast, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye’s experimental thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow” struggled significantly, opening outside the top five with a mere $3.3 million. Senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian commented that the film faced considerable competition from “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” which generated considerable buzz prior to its release. “Hurry Up Tomorrow” received poor critical reception, holding a 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a C- CinemaScore.

Other films in the box office top five included Disney's “Thunderbolts,” which earned $16.5 million, bringing its global total to over $325 million, and “Sinners” with $15.4 million, now totaling $316.8 million worldwide. “A Minecraft Movie” and “The Accountant 2” rounded out the top five, with respective earnings of $5.9 million and $5 million.

Looking ahead, the upcoming weekend may see increased box office activity with the release of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and a live-action adaptation of “Lilo & Stitch.” Overall, the domestic box office remains up nearly 15% compared to last year, indicating a positive trend for the film industry.
