ESPN's new flagship streaming app will be named 'ESPN'

ESPN is set to unveil the name of its upcoming all-access streaming service, simply titled "ESPN." The announcement is expected at a media event next week, as confirmed by anonymous sources familiar with the plans. Disney, which owns ESPN, has refrained from offering official comments on the subject.

The new service is positioned as a "flagship" product by Disney executives and is anticipated to cost between $25 and $30 per month. It will encompass a comprehensive range of content, including live games from ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, and ABC, as well as fantasy sports offerings, betting integrations, documentaries, and studio programming. This service differs from ESPN+, which currently costs $11.99 per month but does not include many of the most-watched live events, such as Monday Night Football.

ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro opted for the name "ESPN" to streamline the increasingly complex landscape of streaming services. The decision aims to reduce confusion among consumers regarding the various media products available. The new application will also act as a reimagined version of the existing ESPN mobile app, facilitating access to the all-access service on smart TVs and other devices. Pay-TV subscribers who already have ESPN will be able to authenticate and access additional digital features through the new app.

Disney CEO Bob Iger indicated that details regarding pricing and potential bundle discounts for the service will be announced next week. The launch of the new ESPN streaming service is expected in the fall, marking a significant shift in how consumers can engage with ESPN content.
