Coco Gauff is the first American to win the French Open in ten years

Coco Gauff, the 21-year-old American tennis player, secured her second Grand Slam title at the French Open, defeating world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in a closely contested final. Gauff triumphed with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4, marking the first time an American woman has won the French Open since Serena Williams in 2015. Notably, no American man has claimed a singles title at Roland Garros since Andre Agassi in 1999.

The match showcased Gauff's resilience, particularly after she found herself trailing 4-1 in the first set. Despite her previous experience in the 2022 French Open final, where she lost to Iga Świątek, Gauff demonstrated significant growth as a competitor. Throughout the match, she managed to maintain composure, especially under challenging windy conditions that affected Sabalenka's serve more severely.

After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, Gauff rebounded strongly in the second, breaking Sabalenka's serve and taking control of the set. In the third set, Gauff built an early lead, capitalizing on Sabalenka's double faults and maintaining her advantage through critical moments of the match.

The two-hour and thirty-eight-minute contest concluded with Gauff serving for the championship at 5-4. Sabalenka's attempt to regain momentum fell short, and Gauff sealed her victory on her second championship point. Post-match, Gauff celebrated with her family and coach in the stands.

Next, Gauff will prepare for Wimbledon, where she gained recognition six years ago as a rising star in tennis. The upcoming tournament will provide another opportunity for Gauff to further establish herself in the sport.
