Christopher Nolan has been elected as the new president of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), as announced by the organization on September 21, 2025. The acclaimed filmmaker, known for works such as "Oppenheimer," expressed gratitude to the guild's members for entrusting him with this position, describing it as one of the greatest honors of his career.
The DGA represents approximately 19,500 directors in film and television, both in the United States and internationally. It is also responsible for the annual DGA awards. Nolan highlighted the significant changes currently facing the industry, emphasizing his commitment to working with the guild's leadership to enhance creative and economic protections for its members. His election comes at a time when the DGA's existing three-year agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is set to expire next year, indicating a busy agenda ahead.
Nolan will succeed Lesli Linka Glatter, who held the position for four years and led the DGA through a challenging period marked by Hollywood strikes in 2023. The DGA board will include notable figures such as Ron Howard, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Laura Belsey, and former president Paris Barclay, with Steven Spielberg and Phil Lord among the board members.
A member of the DGA since 2001, Nolan has been actively involved in the organization, serving on various committees and winning the guild's top award for "Oppenheimer" in 2024. His upcoming project, an adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey," is slated for release on July 17, 2026.
