Singer Chris Brown was arrested on Thursday in England on allegations of causing grievous bodily harm. The Metropolitan Police detained a 36-year-old man at a hotel in Manchester, though the police did not officially name the individual due to legal restrictions on disclosing the identities of suspects prior to charges being filed.
The arrest follows an incident reported to have occurred in February 2023 at the Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair neighborhood. According to producer Abe Diaw, who claims to have been the victim, Brown allegedly struck him with a bottle during what Diaw describes as an unprovoked attack. The incident reportedly left Diaw hospitalized, prompting him to file a lawsuit against Brown for £12 million (approximately $16 million).
The Sun, which first broke the story, indicated that the police were informed of Brown's presence in the U.K. shortly before his arrest, leading officers to travel to Manchester. Brown was in the U.K. as part of a tour, which is scheduled to continue in June and July.
As of now, Brown's representatives have not publicly commented on the arrest or the allegations made against him. The legal proceedings and the outcomes of the lawsuit filed by Diaw remain to be seen as the situation develops.
