Bill Maher shares details of private dinner conversation with Trump

Comedian Bill Maher recently recounted his dinner meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House, facilitated by mutual friend Kid Rock. Maher shared his experience on the April 12 episode of his HBO show, "Real Time," emphasizing that while he and Trump did not agree on many issues, the negative traits he associated with Trump’s public persona were notably absent during their encounter.

Maher brought with him a list of approximately 60 insults Trump had previously directed at him, which Trump humorously signed. He noted that Trump acknowledged having lost the 2020 presidential election, a point that surprised Maher, who remarked on Trump's self-awareness in contrast to his public demeanor.

During their conversation, Trump humorously claimed that Ronald Reagan's best quality was his hair, to which Maher quipped about Reagan's role in ending the Cold War. The exchange reportedly showcased a lighter side of Trump, with Maher appreciating the genuine laughter that followed.

The two also discussed the topic of dogs, with Trump suggesting that past presidents kept pets for political reasons, to which Maher countered that some people simply enjoy having dogs. Trump conceded this point, further highlighting a candid moment in their dialogue.

While Maher acknowledged the more personable side of Trump, he maintained that this private demeanor does not negate the implications of Trump’s actions and statements on the global stage. He expressed a desire for the president's private character to align more closely with his public persona, illustrating the complexities of their interaction.
