James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the fourth highest grossing movie of all time. According to Disney, who produced the sequel, it is the second fastest to pass the $2 billion mark, only behind Avengers: Endgame.
Reviews for the movie have generally been positive, although some have been more critical. Avatar: The Way of Water has been the top-grossing film domestically every day this month with the exception of one day, and its highest grossing day was on January 14.
With this success, James Cameron has now directed three of the top four highest grossing movies of all time, including Avatar (2009) and Titanic (1997). Avengers: Endgame currently holds the record for the highest grossing movie, with $2.79 billion worldwide.
It remains to be seen if Avatar: The Way of Water will hold its position as the fourth highest grossing movie of all time, but it has certainly made an impressive start.
