Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have reached a settlement in their defamation case, ending a long and difficult legal battle. Heard had expressed her lack of faith in the American legal system leading up to the settlement, and has agreed to pay her former husband $1 million, which will be donated to charity and paid through her insurance.
The trial that followed the 2018 Washington Post opinion article in which Heard identified herself as a domestic abuse victim was sensational and attracted a lot of media attention. Heard has since been vindicated in a similar trial in the UK, where the court found her claims of abuse to be true.
Now that the legal battle is behind her, Heard plans to focus on the work that helped her heal and continue to effect change. With the settlement behind them, both Heard and Depp can now move on with their lives.
