Supplement recalled due to false COVID-19 cure claim

The FDA has issued an “urgent notice” to recall the Natural Solutions Foundation’s Dr Rima Recommends Nano Silver 10ppm dietary supplement. The recall was initiated because the product was “labeled as a dietary supplement that, in the opinion of the government, makes unsubstantiated health claims that the product will prevent, treat, or cure COVID-19”. Natural Solutions Foundation has voluntarily recalled the product, which was sold between January 2020 and December 2021. The company is asking all its customers to examine their inventory to see if they possess the recalled product and to “immediately cease distribution” according to the notice.

In 2020, the FDA sent the company a warning letter after discovering unapproved and misbranded products related to coronavirus on its websites. The letter stated that the FDA is taking “urgent measures to protect consumers from certain products that, without approval or authorization by FDA, claim to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people”.

The FDA recommends that consumers who have purchased the recalled product discontinue use and contact their healthcare provider if they have experienced any adverse reactions. It is important to consult a healthcare professional before taking any dietary supplement and to not use dietary supplements to replace any approved medical treatments.
