Yelp criticizes Google's anti-competition practices

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has joined a lawsuit alleging that Google has unlawfully exerted dominance over the online ad space. The lawsuit, filed by multiple states, is asking the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia to order the divestiture of the Google Ad Manager suite, including its publisher ad server DFP, and its ad exchange AdX.

Yelp, a company that publishes crowd sourced reviews on businesses, released a statement to Fox News Digital, accusing Google of anti-competitive behavior and protecting their monopoly. Luther Lowe, Senior Vice President of Public Policy for Yelp, said that the primary victim of Google's actions is the consumer and that the company should be held accountable for their monopolistic tendencies.

Google has long held the top spot in digital advertising, accounting for nearly 30% of the industry last year. Despite a recent decrease in their dominance, Google still accounted for 28.8% of digital advertising in 2022. Alphabet, Google's parent company, recently announced plans to lay off 12,000 workers from its various teams. The lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial in September.
