Stanley recalls travel mugs due to burn hazard

Stanley, a well-known company that produces travel mugs, has issued a recall for certain models of its "switchback" and "trigger action" stainless steel travel mugs sold in the United States and Canada. The recall was initiated due to a potential burn hazard caused by the mug's lid threads shrinking when exposed to heat and torque, leading to the lid detaching during use.

In Canada, the recall affects 184,170 units of the affected products that were sold between May 2016 and December 2024. Health Canada has reported one burn injury related to the use of the recalled mugs. In the United States, 2.6 million units were sold, with 16 incident reports and two burn injuries.

Overall, there have been 91 reports worldwide of the recalled travel mug lids detaching during use, resulting in 38 burn injuries. Eleven consumers worldwide have required medical attention as a result of these incidents.

Consumers who have purchased the affected Stanley travel mugs are advised to stop using them immediately and contact Stanley for a free replacement lid, including shipping. Consumers can reach Stanley at 866-792-5445 during business hours or visit the company's website for more information on filing a recall claim.
