Regulators recall almost all Tesla Cybertrucks for safety concerns

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall affecting nearly all Tesla Cybertrucks currently on the road, marking the eighth recall since the vehicle's deliveries began in late 2023. The recall encompasses over 46,000 units from the 2024 and 2025 model years, produced between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025.

The primary concern involves a stainless steel panel known as the cant rail assembly, located between the windshield and the roof on both sides of the vehicle. According to the NHTSA, this panel may detach while driving, posing a potential hazard to other road users and increasing the risk of accidents. The recall will address this issue by replacing the panel with a new version that utilizes a more durable adhesive and includes additional reinforcements. Tesla is offering this replacement at no cost to owners, with notification letters expected to be sent out by May 19, 2025.

Tesla has faced scrutiny for multiple recalls over the past 15 months, including previous issues related to electric inverters, acceleration pedals, windshield wipers, and display screens. Recent viral videos on social media have shown individuals removing these panels manually, further highlighting the concern.

While no injuries related to this recall have been reported, the company has encountered other challenges, including vandalism at its showrooms and charging stations. These incidents have occurred in the context of increased competition in the electric vehicle market and a significant decline in Tesla's stock value, which has dropped 42% in 2025. Owners of the affected Cybertrucks can reach out to Tesla customer service or the NHTSA for assistance.
