Elon Musk's xAI introduced its latest artificial intelligence model, Grok 3, asserting that it surpasses existing models from OpenAI and China's DeepSeek based on initial evaluations. These assessments included standardized tests in mathematics, science, and coding. During a demonstration streamed on the social media platform X, Musk described Grok 3 as significantly more capable than its predecessor, Grok 2, and emphasized its advanced reasoning skills.
The company also announced a new product called "Deep Search," which is intended to serve as a next-generation search engine. Grok 3 is set to be available to premium subscribers of X, with additional access through a separate subscription for its web and app versions.
Musk previously referred to Grok 3 as "scary smart" at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, where he highlighted the model's ability to learn from its errors and achieve logical consistency. He mentioned that initial tests on platforms like Chatbot Arena indicated Grok 3 received better ratings than its competitors.
Despite Musk's optimistic outlook, he cautioned that Grok 3 is still in its beta phase, expecting some initial imperfections. The xAI team is committed to ongoing improvements, with plans to introduce voice assistance in the future.
The AI landscape is currently highly competitive, with Musk's xAI entering a market that includes OpenAI's recent advancements, such as the o1 model. This competition has been intensified by the emergence of DeepSeek, a Chinese startup that recently claimed its open-source model rivals OpenAI's capabilities. xAI utilizes a supercomputer equipped with a large cluster of Nvidia GPUs for its AI training, which has been expanded to support Grok 3.
