Honda is recalling approximately 259,000 vehicles, including certain models of Honda and Acura, due to a defect in the brake pedal assembly that could pose safety risks. The recall affects Honda Pilot SUVs from the 2023-2025 model years, Acura MDX SUVs from the 2023-2025 model years, and Acura TLX sedans from the 2021-2025 model years.
The issue arises from pivot pins in the brake pedal that were not properly secured during manufacturing, which may lead to the brake pedal shifting out of position. This malfunction could cause unintended brake application or hinder the driver’s ability to decelerate or stop the vehicle safely. Additionally, affected drivers may experience unusual brake pedal sensations, see the brake malfunction light illuminate on the dashboard, or find that their brake lights remain on even when not engaged.
Honda has stated that there have been no reported injuries or fatalities linked to this brake pedal defect. As part of the recall process, owners of the affected vehicles are encouraged to take their cars to local dealerships, where technicians will inspect the brake pedal assemblies. If necessary, the brake pedal assembly will be replaced at no cost to the vehicle owner.
Honda plans to notify customers with detailed instructions by late July. The company, which has been selling the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX for years, introduced the Acura brand nearly four decades ago. In 2024, Honda reported sales of over 132,300 Acura vehicles and approximately 1.291 million Honda vehicles in the U.S.
