Elon Musk bids farewell to Trump Cabinet, says DOGE saved $160 billion

Tesla CEO Elon Musk participated in a cabinet meeting hosted by President Donald Trump at the White House, where he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the administration. Wearing a cap emblazoned with "Gulf of America," Musk remarked on the accomplishments achieved during the initial 100 days of Trump's presidency, stating, "It was an honor to work with you," and emphasized that substantial progress had been made.

Musk's involvement in government stemmed from his role overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he claimed had saved $160 billion through workforce reductions and spending cuts, a figure that fell short of his earlier projections. While Musk initially aimed for a savings target of $2 trillion, he acknowledged that the outcomes might be more modest, suggesting that the final figure could even be around $1 trillion, depending on various factors.

As Musk prepares to reduce his commitment to DOGE, planning to allocate only a "day or two per week" to governmental efforts starting in May, reports indicate that he has ceased working out of the White House. Despite his reduced involvement, his team continues operations in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

During the meeting, Trump commended Musk for his contributions and expressed appreciation for the sacrifices he has made, while Musk humorously referenced incidents of vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles amid his government work. The cabinet members acknowledged Musk's efforts with applause, and Trump extended an invitation for Musk to remain involved for as long as he wished.
